We look forward to a fantastic school year for 2016 – 2017 as I continue to work with an amazing group of students, distinguished staff, as well VERY supportive community. We continue to offer a rigorous curriculum focused on the implementation of the Common Core and Essential Standards that will assist our students in becoming Future Ready graduates, and our students will continue to be encouraged to stretch their academic studies. Through the support of you, the parent, we will continue to develop young adults that are confident, competent and ready to move to the next level of education and then out into the community and contribute to the future growth of our community, state and our nation.
I encourage you to communicate with your child's teacher by written notes or email as we work together as a team to provide your child with the best possible education and visit our school as often as possible. Please know that I am always here to help. I would like to personally thank you for sharing your precious children with us as we work together to educate our future leaders of tomorrow.
We look forward to an extraordinary school year!

 Assistant Principal: Terence Fernung

Mr. Fernung

Dear Students, Staff, and Parents:
I am thrilled to serve as the Pickett Elementary Assistant Principal for the seventh year. Pickett Elementary strives to provide a highly effective, engaging, and differentiated education to every single student, properly preparing students in becoming 21stCentury thinkers using critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, and communication to develop their decision-making and problem solving skills. Using inquiry-based learning and rigorous content, our educators challenge all students to explore real-world problems and engage in meaningful learning.
The teachers and administrative team hold the highest standards for all students at PES. High expectations for student respect, responsibility, and integrity help create a positive learning environment where all students feel enthusiastic about their school experiences. It is our goal that each child will reach their greatest potential, both academically and behaviorally; also with being fully prepared for success in college and in their career.
The collaboration with the staff, students, families, and community members at Pickett Elementary School creates a culture that promotes the philosophy of life-long learning. It is my belief that this is the type of culture where all members of our school community can thrive.
I am excited to support your families in preparing our students at PES for success. My office door is always open. Please feel free to contact me with any questions, comments, or concerns. I can be reached either through email, tfernung@lexcs.org, or by phone: (336)242-1546.
Thank you,
Mr. Terence L. Fernung
